Using movie clip: Lucy Escapes (2014)

Camera work
  1. Starts with extreme close up shot with the protagonist's eye.
  2. Zooms out from an extreme close up shot to a close up shot to a mid shot rapidly.
  3. Wide shot of the scene, at different angles.
  4. Shallow depth of field, focusing on another character.
  5. Shallow depth of field changes, back to main character.
  6. POV shot from Lucy's (main characters) eyes. Low angle, making the antagonist looking to be in a position of power.
  7. Over the shoulder shot, with antagonist appearing closer.
  8. Wide shot, action scene.
  9. Scene change, close up and wide shot of table.
Mise-en-scene
  1. setting and location: Prison cell, dark, grimy, enclosed

  3. props: gun, keys, chains, belt. next scene: food, glass, drinks, bag, another gun, jacket
  4. colour palette: grey, white, dark colours, dark blue, black. next scene: more vibrant colours, representing food, weapons and accessories, red for blood.
  5. performance: starts with no expression, sitting, waiting, suspense. Other character walks in slowly building up tension and presented as the predator. Protagonist smirks alluring him in, fighting scene, powerful stride to next scene. glances to bullet as if it's nothing whilst ripping it out her chest, establishes her dominating personality.
  6. foreground and background: foreground, main character, background the cell. then switches focus to the table. foreground to man character, background the table and the gun. foreground, attacked character, background attacking main character. switch to eating scene: foreground food and props, background main character eating, foreground main character with the actions of putting stuff in her bag, background of the eating area.

  1. Well done, nice textual analysis observations. For this task you only needed to identify camera & mise-en-scene.

Try and embed the clip if you can?
